Valora is a mobile wallet built on the Celo blockchain, aimed to make sending and receiving money borderless and secure. I developed a new art style for the app’s onboarding experience in 2021.
My role and process
This was an opportunity to evolve the brand and show personality in the ways only design can. I initially experimented with texture and hand painted illustrations, however it was not a scalable process for future changes. It helped to break up components of the illustrations into characters and shapes. This flexible visual framework brought Valora’s story to life.
The personality of the characters are relaxed and calm. They are often walking, lounging, or interacting with others. Shapes represent value, and are often held and shared by characters.
Takeaways
What made this project special was having the freedom to explore a wide range of directions, and to be very intentional with the art style. This perspective continues to push me to make meaningful design decisions.
